Marketing Tips

You know something is hot when you start seeing celebrities, politicians and well known people from @TonyRobbins to @AnitaCochran to @EliManning to @ShaquilleO’Neal and others, are stampeding to establish themselves as part of the Twitter elite.

You also know something is Hot when you attend a 3 day super seminar of the top marketers and the most discussed form of marketingĀ  was twittering andĀ  social networking. When twitter is properly applied so that it is not spammy, it can be a major marketingĀ  tool that increases visitors to your site, gives you an expert status and thus results in an increase in the bottom line-more sales.

However Twitter is far more intimate than that. What a lot of people do not realize is that Twitter is a local phenomena as well. More likely than not, your town municipal government is using Twitter, your local TV news, your local Fire Fighters, your library, your community college, even the gal that bagged your groceries last week. If they are not on Twitter now, it’s just a matter of time.

But there’s another audience making its mark on Twitter. It’s an undercurrent of a more serious nature where business owners (both large and small) including entrepreneurs and home-based businesses are starting to tap the magical potential of Twitter. When we observe well-known companies like: @GMblogs, @SouthwestAir or @pearlfineteas start lining up on the Twitter bandwagon, it’s definitely time to pay close attention.

It is likely that this “business phenomena” boils down to the time tested fact that a lot of business actually occurs in social gatherings, at cocktail parties, on the golf course, or at numerous other social events. Now, through Twitter it’s easy to benefit from an online version of a non-stop 24 hour, 7 day a week cocktail party of incredible proportions.

It’s hard to overlook some of these facts and stories:

  • “Take note of Twitter’s power to quickly reach targeted consumers.” said publisher O’Reilly ~Los Angeles Times
  • “88% of marketers surveyed are interested in using social media to market their businesses, BUT 72% have only been doing so for a few months or less. A significant 64% of marketers are using social media for 5 hours or more each week and 39% for 10 or more hours weekly.”
  • “The average unique visitor went to Twitter.com 14 times during the month and spent an average of seven minutes on the site.”

What does all this mean? It means that if you are an entrepreneur or in any business, make your plans soon to get over to Twitter and set up your own Twitter account.

Simple enough?

Well, not quite. Once you have your Twitter account opened, that’s when the for most people, the challenges begin. It’s a very very simplistic concept, but like a Rubik’s Cube, unless you know WHAT to do, you’re going to soon be scratching your head.

Thankfully, there’s help. Internet strategist and social media marketing expert, Dan Hollings has spent over a year researching and testing Twitter strategies for business. Along the way, Dan wrote 100 of the most popular Twitter tips found anywhere online. Next he created a browser toolbar for Mac or PC that places over 235 Twitter tools, tips and apps easily within reach. Recently, he released his “tour de force” Twitter training program called, “Twitter Twenius” (that’s Twitter-talk for genius).

Here is a basic Twitter tip, to from the hundreds Dan has originated:

While there are systems and strategies to pro-actively increase your followers, you will find that quality followers (people that listen) will often find YOU once you’ve established your own “Twitter Personality.”

It goes without saying that there’s a lot more to learn, however if you’re looking for how to make money with Twitter or a way to accelerate the Twitter afterburners on all your marketing campaigns whether in your local area or throughout the world, I wholeheartedly recommend Twitter Twenius.
